“Fluoride Deception” – A review

Christopher Bryson is an investigative journalist formerly employed by the BBC who has written a book called the “Fluoride Deception” (May 2004, 7 Stories Press) he was interviewed by Michael Connett of the Fluoride Action Network for a compelling documentary of the same name available from Google Video.

In this doco Bryson equates Fluoride science with corporate science which he points out has justified as healthy & safe such fantastic products as tobacco, DDT, asbestos, thalydimide, nuclear power and lead in petrol. This kind of junk science Bryson exposes as “a racket” and “fraudulaent science”

Bryson has uncovered documents that show the early connection between the researchers who promoted the flouridation of water (The Mellon Institute – appologists for asbestos) and the aluminium industry. In the 30’s & 40’s Fluoride was a major toxic pollution hazzard. It was the leading source of air pollution in the US. Fluoride was an unreported cause of the worst air pollution disaster in US history in the Donora accident. It was known to be causing widespread agricultural damage and severe health effects on workers. These facts were a major cause for litigation against the polluters. Toxic industries’ response to public pressure to clean up their acts was to seek out a cheap place to dispose their waste. They hit upon the brilliantly Macheavellian strategy of masking Fluoride pollution as a public health positive by dumping it into the drinking water supply.

Fluoride appologists got a a big boost from the nuclear industry as one of the key components of the nuclear bomb testing was large quantities of Fluoride. Dr Harold Hodge cheief toxicologist of Manhatten Project & leading Fluoride advocate was a trusted senior public figure. In 1957 he declared Fluoride “safe @ 1ppm”. The ethics of his assertions regarding Fluoride are called into serious question by the fact that he is now known to have been the co-orchestrator of human plutonium experiements 1945-6 and had a serious vested interest in covering up the massive Fluoride pollution problems inherent in his activities testing nukes.

Independent research critical of flouridation has been aggressively suppressed to prevent the flood of litigation that would follow the revelations regarding its toxic effects. Credible researchers were sacked and intimidated. Serial spin doctors for such causes as lead in petrol and tobbacco were paid astronomical sums to promote adding Fluoride to water supplies. Front organisations with fine sounding names were set up and funded by Fluoride polluting industries. Those daring to speak out against the carefully constructed orthodoxy were pilloried as paranoid quacks. The effects of these campaigns carry on to the present day.

Many places around the world not so influenced by the US industries have rejected flouridation. Europe has largely bypassed the mass medication of its citizens. Queensland Australia has resisted for many years but has only recently succumbed to the pressure to flouridate. Individuals can act to lobby their legislators to prevent or remove flouridation from their water supplies and we can remove a large percentage of Fluoride from their water supplies by choosing a water filter.

This is a disturbing and alarming documentary but one that anyone concerned about environmental and human health should not shy away from. Have a look at it!
